Family Planning Program
Oklahoma has the 6th highest rate of teen births in the United States with 59.6 births per 100,000 teen girls.
Oklahoma’s teen birth rate is 30% higher than the average for the United States. (59.6 vs. 41.9)
Publicly-funded family planning services help women to avoid pregnancies they do not want and to plan pregnancies they do.
Every public dollar spent on family planning services saves the federal and state governments three dollars in Medicaid costs for prenatal and newborn care.
Pediatric Program
Our pediatric program focuses on the needs of thousands of families who would have no other access to comprehensive healthcare for their newborn babies, and no options to provide healthcare to those babies as they grow from toddlers into elementary school age and young adulthood.
Pediatric services concentrate on preventive health care through immunizations and early periodic screening for hearing, vision, speech, physical and social development for children/young adults through age twenty-one. In addition, the program provides nutrition and parenting education for parents.
The younger a child is when he or she gains access to quality pediatric care, the more likely that child will keep up with his or her age group in social development and cognitive skills. Without access to healthcare, children lag behind their peers in development and learning. They are unable to concentrate in school and have problems participating in social and physical activities. The child's health suffers and the resources needed to repair the damage can be a burden to already overstretched state budgets, communities, and, most tragically, the family.
Prenatal Program
Early access to prenatal care can prevent negative health outcomes for mother and child. While the value of healthy mothers and newborns is self-evident in human terms, in strictly monetary terms the positive impact on society is substantial. Studies show that for every dollar spent on prenatal care, an estimated $1.70 to $3.38 is saved based on the mother's risk factors.
One important aspect of our prenatal program is its family planning educational component. Young mothers-to-be in our program not only receive the care so necessary to their health and the health of their unborn child, but they also receive counseling on how to prevent unintended pregnancy. Unplanned pregnancies cause emotional and monetary impact on parents and children, especially when parents are too close in age to being children themselves.
